CELEBRATE EARTH DAY ON 22 APRIL WITH AN ECO-FRIENDLY STAY IN INDIA
The annual celebration of Earth Day on 22 April is one of the largest secular observances in the world and is celebrated by more than one billion people every year. Since 1970, Earth Day has highlighted the effects of climate change on the world, and continues to inspire the population to rally for environmental action. India Tourism is therefore encouraging travellers to ‘stay green’ on their holidays this year by enjoying a stay at hotels and resorts across the country that offer eco-friendly initiatives.
With 26 hotels located across India, The Fern Hotels & Resorts provides modern hotel facilities whilst minimalising the environmental impact. Under careful watch of The Green Team, the hotels’ driving force of eco-warrior staff, the brand has established a wide variety of environmentally-friendly initiatives. These include the Green Button, a special feature on a guest’s bedside table that provides the option to reduce power consumption. Earth-conscious toiletries are also provided for guests, along with a recycling bin, energy-efficient air conditioning systems and pressed particleboard clothes hangers. In a bid to support the natural environment, no flowers are cut for decoration at the hotel and potted plants are used instead.
Room rates at The Fern Residency start from approx. £30 (2,500 INR) per night plus tax. Price includes breakfast and complimentary WiFi and is based on travel in April 2017. For more information or to book, visit www.fernhotels.com.
THE Park Hyderabad, one of the flagship hotels for THE Park Hotels, was the first LEED GOLD certified green hotel in India. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is the most widely used third-party verification for green buildings and evaluates buildings according to a criteria that address sustainability issues. For day-to-day environmental responsibility, staff at THE Park Hotels undergo training regarding conserving water, saving electricity and using paper products instead of plastic. Other environmental initiatives at the hotels include rainwater harvesting, waste recycling, and power conservation.
Room rates at THE Park Hyderabad start from approx. £204 (16,500 INR) per night for a double room. Price is based on travel in April 2017. For more information or to book, visit www.theparkhotels.com.
