I firmly believe “The art is in the eating” and a good meal must play with your feelings and evoke memories. An empty plate to me is like an open canvas. It is where the final art is taking place, the last brush stroke, the paint drops of passion come together to form food art. For me, you eat with your eyes first but saying that the food must taste as good as it looks on the plate. I studied hospitality in Stellenbosch and worked in the evenings after class in restaurants to gain experience in the industry.
I furthered my studies in culinary arts and patisserie at Meerendal wine estate, under the guidance of one of South Africa’s best chefs. After my studies, I returned to the wine lands of Stellenbosch and worked there for several years improving my skills and gaining more experience. After a few years, I started with The Pot & Spoon. It is a Pop-Up restaurant concept where we do special dinners and events in the wine lands surrounding Cape Town and in the city bowl. In that time I opened a small eatery as well with my business partner. Then an opportunity came along in my life that I would not have dreamed of and find myself in Switzerland now working at a starred restaurant. Every day I am learning so much and living out my passion for cooking.
