Artists of the month (April) Joyce Gardeslen.
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and lived there until I was 20 years old, now living in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany for the past four years. I went to the Pontifical Catholic University of Ponce, Puerto Rico and studied an Associate Degree in applied science in Fashion Designs. Even knowing how to make almost every kind of cloth was pretty cool, my favourite still being the illustration part; the drawing or sketch that designers use as a starting point. A few months after I graduated, my husband’s job required us to move to Germany where I started to make portraits as a hobby. Being in a country as a foreign fellow could be very tough, especially if you don’t speak the language, so I started to do something that could bring me peace, make me happy and useful.
Since then, I’ve been looking forward to improving my art techniques, so I bought art books. In time I got customers. I do commission mixed media art, mostly portraits. My artwork always reminds me that life has too many beautiful wonders as a gift for us to worry about how it will be tomorrow. I would say I’ve experienced, by myself, the very meaning of my favourite phrase from Antonio Machado, a Spanish poet, who said: “Walker, there is no path, the path is made by walking”.2Need at least 3 ratings
