Rachel Whiteman’s passion is creating. Over a short period, she has developed a unique style and very individual techniques. Successfully capturing the essence of nature and Gaia, her paintings transport you to an ethereal place. Rachel’s exposure to many cultures has influenced her artistic style, having grown up in sub-Saharan Africa, Norway and Scotland, Rachel travelled extensively in Europe, North America and Asia before emigrating to Australia. Rachel frequently draws on the extensive visual library she has built in her mind to recreate the pristine environment of Western Australia, paying particular attention to the world-class coastline and unique landscapes. As a self-taught artist, Rachel strives to recreate light and life in her paintings. Rachel bases all her academic, professional and personal endeavours on striving for artistic excellence but she is never afraid to make mistakes.
As Sir Ken Robinson says – “If you’re not prepared to be wrong, you’ll never come up with anything original.”
Rachel is currently working on a new series “Smoke and Mirrors”. This series is quite visceral. Working on a large scale with alcohol inks, these paintings dance with light, like sunlight on water or love in your blood stream. They have a presence of their own, where the viewer can but only try and soak in their gifts.
